Speyside is in the heart of malt whisky country and for many people autumn – when the leaves on the trees turn golden just like the amber nectar – is their favourite time of year here. But for me, Speyside really comes to life in the spring.
April is a fantastic month to visit. Not only do we start to enjoy more daylight because of the clocks going forward, but the whole area starts to buzz with anticipation for the summer months ahead.
Tourist attractions – including many of the distilleries on the Malt Whisky Trail – reopen for the season, and there are lots of community events from Easter egg hunts to spring shows.
It’s also the month that the Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival takes place. If you’ve never visited before, it can be hard to sum it up in just a few words. Almost 500 different events take place over five fantastic days – all of them celebrating our local whisky industry.
The Festival is definitely one of my top things to see and do in the spring, and we like to get involved by staging our own events. We’ll be hosting James Cordiner, brand ambassador for Chivas Brothers, on April 28 for a masterclass during which he’ll be sharing six stunning drams.
Then we’ll be mixing it up on April 29 by showing that, contrary to popular belief, Scotland’s national drink doesn’t have to be enjoyed with only water or ice. We’ll be tempting guests with our whisky cocktail masterclass during which they will enjoy the best our mixology team has to offer, before mixing up one of their own creations.
April flies by, but no matter how busy we are there is always time for the team here at The Station Hotel to give guests a warm welcome and share some inside knowledge on where to go and what to do.
